Finger Lakes Concert Band

Thursdays, 7:30–9:30 pm at the Canandaigua Middle School
Comprised of instrumentalists from the Greater Finger Lakes community, the Finger Lakes
Concert Band rehearses weekly and gives several concerts per year featuring a wide variety of
music ranging from standard wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions to music of the
jazz and pop idioms. Auditions are not required. Musical competence will be determined by the
Music Director during a trial period of at least two weeks, but not to exceed more than one
series of rehearsals culminating with a concert. Please call (585) 454–4596, ext. 18 for more

Chamber Music Connection
Intermediate to advanced level
Weekly onehour sessions will be scheduled at times mutually agreeable
between ensemble members and coach.
Chamber Music Connection offers challenging opportunities to play a unique and crucial role in a small group setting. One of the most rewarding ways to celebrate your love of music, participation in a CMC ensemble will develop musicianship as well as personal skills such as cooperation, leadership, poise, focus, and self-awareness. Trios, quartets and quintets are formed of players with compatible ages and abilities, as permitted from the pool of applicants. Open to piano, strings, woodwinds and brass. Opportunities and benefits of the program include: weekly coachings with members of the Hochstein Faculty, Antara Winds (guest artist woodwind quintet), or Quartos (guest artist string quartet); master classes with guest artists; performance opportunities in Hochstein's Performance Hall and Hilda D. Taylor Recital Hall; and participation in community events such as Hochstein's Performathon at Eastview Mall and the Barnes & Noble Bookfair, among others.
FEE: $8 registration fee, $396* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $99 each. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $324 payable in quarterly installments of $81.
Beginning Chamber Strings

Saturdays, 11:30–12:30 pm
An enjoyable opportunity for adult string players to perform with peers in a fun, relaxed ensemble setting! Explore a variety of great repertoire while developing ensemble performance skills. Open to late-beginner through intermediate adult violin, viola and cello players. No audition required. Participants must be taking individual lessons (at Hochstein or elsewhere) in order to enroll.
FEE: $8 registration fee; $55 per session. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, tuition is $45.
Advanced Guitar Ensemble

This guitar ensemble performs a wide variety of music including Bach, Mozart,
Albeniz, Hindemith, Cole Porter, and others. Audition with sight-reading

Jazz Combos

Advanced level
Jazz combos formed with students of compatible ages and abilities. Open to
strings, piano, woodwinds, guitar, electric bass and percussion. Reading skills
and the ability to sight-read are necessary. A placement audition is required
and will consist of sight-reading, selected scales in 2–4 octaves from all
major and minor keys, and a performance of a prepared selection. Rehearsal times to be scheduled.

An excellent opportunity for clarinet students to improve both individual
and sectional clarinet techniques through a wide range of repertoire.
Flute Ensemble

Thursdays, 7:00–8:00 pm
The perfect chamber music opportunity for the serious flute enthusiast! A
wonderful introduction to play and perform the unique repertoire of the flute
ensemble with fellow flutists. Geared for the advanced flutists, the
class will emphasize, challenge and enhance flutists' sight–reading, solo
performance, rhythmic and intonation skills. Repertoire is selected from a
wide variety of musical styles.
Trombone Choir
Intermediate to advanced level
Tuesdays, 7:30–8:30 pm
An exciting introduction into the world of trumpet ensemble literature. Students will learn the joy of playing with other trumpet students, as well as the fun of preparation for performance opportunities at the Hochstein School and other community events.

Hochstein Chorale

Mondays, 5:30–7:00 pm
Are you an adult who loves to sing and longs for an outlet? Is singing for
fun, FUN for you? Join us and improve your singing and sight-reading skills
as you perform music of all genres including "traditional" choral
music, folk music, music of other cultures, Broadway tunes, patriotic literature
and more. The Chorale will perform at least once each semester. No audition
required.

Students requiring tuition assistance in order to enroll in any program at Hochstein may do so through the Dean’s Office. For adults enrolling in individual lessons, reduced fees may apply if household income is less than $25,000. Verification of household income and completion of a tuition assistance application is due prior to registration.
