Individual Instruction is at the heart of Hochstein's comprehensive program and is the most effective way to make significant progress in musical skills. Following an orientation meeting with one of our Deans. students ar matched with an appropriate teacher who tailors instruction to best fit each student's needs and goals. Lessons are offered in all orchestral instruments, voice, piano, harp, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, percussion, and Suzuki flute, violin, viola, and cello. Lessons are available weekdays, evenings and Saturdays. Because a certain degree of physical development is essential to playing an instrument, Hochstein subscribes to the following minimum ages:
Guitar, age 5
Harp, age 9 (some prior piano study preferred)
Percussion, age 9
Piano, private, age 5
Piano, group, age 4
Strings, Suzuki, age 3

Voice, age 12
Wind instruments, age 9
Suzuki flute, age 7
Acoustic piano (or a digital piano with 88 full-size, weighted keys) in the home required for piano lessons.
Children taking individual instruction at Hochstein qualify for the following discounted rates: $45 per quarter for Foundations in Music or Children's Dance class, and reduced fees for Choir, Music Theory and History courses, Orchestra or other Ensembles. Adults qualify for reduced fees for Workshops, Ensembles, Music Theory and Music History, Jazz courses and Dance.
All individual instruction is arranged by appointment with the Dean's Office.

$25*, 30 minute lesson
$36*, 45 minute lesson
$46*, 1 hour lesson
*These fees for children taking individual instruction may apply if household
income exceeds $40,000; these fees for adults taking individual instruction may
apply if household income exceeds $25,000. Reduced fees are available on
a sliding scale, based on household income. We will be happy to discuss your
