Dance for Children

(for students ages 3 and older, depending upon specific class guidelines)

A joyful, energetic, and nurturing introduction to dance, presented by teachers specifically trained to work with children! CHoose from a variety of oferings for the young dancer. Many of Hochstein's Dance classes enjoy the benefits of live accompaniment.

NEW! Young Dancers Creative Ensemble
ages 9-14
all levels
Participate in a performance workshop class and work together to create a small production. With the instructor, students work as an ensemble to develop a narrative dance, while engaging in fun classroom exercises that highlight different styles, techniques, and great dance productions of the spotlight past!  Students will have the opportunity to stage and perform their production at the end of the semester, as well as participate in lively costume, mime, and make-up workshops.

Mini-Ballerinas
Coralis Rivera, Instructor
ages 3-4
Tuesdays, 4:15-5:00 pm
A fun introduction to the world of ballet! Little ballerinas will learn the names of the positions of the arms and legs, as well as movements such as tendu, plié, relevé, and passé through the use of games and songs.

Jazzy Juniors
Kate Wheeler and Adrienna Rose, Instructors
ages 3–4
Thursdays, 4:15 pm or Saturdays, 9:00 am
Children discover and explore the fun of movement and rhythms as they develop body awareness through creative games, stretches and beginning dance elements. Class is 45 minutes long.

Dazzling Jazzers
Coralis Rivera, Instructor
ages 5-7
Tuesdays, 5:15-6:00 pm
Let your little jazzer learn beginning dance moves while engaging in fun stretching, jumping, and turning activities to promote coordination and flow.

Children’s African Dance
Adrienne Rose, Instructor
ages 5-7
Saturdays, 9:45-10:30 am
This class is designed with an African sensibility that allows children to feel the freedom of the body in motion. Children will learn that rhythm is inside them just waiting to come out through dance, songs, and percussion.

Pre–Ballet
ages 5–6

Wednesdays, 4:15 or 5:00 pm
This class is designed to foster interest in pursuing more advanced ballet techniques. Children will learn introductory ballet techniques as well as body awareness and movement exploration through games and exercises that are age appropriate. Class is one hour long.

BALLET
Ballet A, B

ages 7-12

Develop coordination, grace, musicality, flexibility and balance in this sequential program. Classes introduce and build skills in basic ballet technique and vocab.

EXPLORING DANCE (ages 8–13)
Beginning Caribbean/Latin

Experience the combination of African, Taino, Arawak and Spanish elements in this introduction to Latin rhythms, movement, and folklore.

Jump Into Jazz

ages 8–13
Mondays, 4:30-5:30 pm

Using jazz and contemporary music (including blues, pop, lyrical and theatrical), this class introduces the traditional jazz form and explores its origins in ballet.

Children's Tap
Victoria Gregory, Instructor
ages 8-13
Thursdays, 5:15-6:15 pm

Become acquainted with great music and lots of fun with this highly rhythmic, foot-focused dance form.

Young Dancer's Creative Ensemble

ages 9-14
Fridays, 4:00-5:00 pm

Learn beautiful patterns of movement in this uniquely young, vibrant ensemble.

FEE for Children’s Dance: $396* tuition payable in four installments of $99. Students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein qualify for a reduced fee of $5 per class for one Children’s Dance or Music FUNdamentals class (a savings of $6 per class).

*TUITION ASSISTANCE Students requiring tuition assistance in order to enroll in any program at Hochstein may do so through the Dean’s Office. For children enrolled in individual lessons, reduced fees may apply if household income is less than $40,000. For children enrolling in classes only and for adults enrolling in individual lessons, reduced fees may apply if household income is less than $25,000. Verification of household income and completion of a tuition assistance application is due prior to registration.
