Spotlight on Faculty Musical Feast Job Openings Faculty/Student News Hochstein Spotlight on Faculty presents Classical Jazz will be featured on the “Spotlight on Faculty” concert Friday, January 22 at 7:30 pm with Hochstein faculty members Debbie Grohman, clarinet and Willie LaFavor, piano. The program will include two early works by Claude Debussy, a Scott Joplin waltz, ragtime by Erik Satie, Four Piano Blues by Aaron Copland, and other works by Arthur Honegger, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Benny Goodman. The concert is free, with artist reception following. Debbie Grohman teaches clarinet at Hochstein at Canandaigua. She is a winner of numerous concerto competitions and has soloed with orchestras nationwide. She and her husband, Willie LaFavor are co-founders of the Chautauqua Motet Consort, an in-residence chamber ensemble at the Chautauqua Institution. Willie LaFavor met Debbie while getting their Masters of Music degrees at New England Conservatory. He has a DMA from Indiana University and maintains a steady schedule of private teaching, instructing and accompanying at Hochstein, as well as his duties as Director of Music at Messiah Lutheran Church. Hochstein’s Annual Musical Feast Sunday, January 24, 2010 Rochester, NY– Beat the winter doldrums and introduce your child to the sights and sounds of music and dance at Hochstein’s Annual Musical Feast! The Feast provides hands on demonstrations with the ever-popular Instrument Petting Zoo; other activities throughout the day include performances by student musicians, musical games such as Drum Circle and a Scavenger Hunt, a bake sale, balloon art, open dance and music classes, and new this year caricature artist, Dave Boyer. Tickets for the Musical Feast are $2 per child, $5 per adult, and $10 per family and are available at the door. Children 3 and under are admitted free of charge. All proceeds benefit Hochstein’s educational programs.

Director Brian Story is currently director of the 7th & 8th Grade Bands at the Canandaigua Middle School. He received his B. S. in Music Education and his Masters of Music from Mansfield University in Mansfield Pa. Mr. Story is an active composer and performer as an instrumentalist and vocalist and is a member of the bass section in Rochester’s vocal ensemble Madrigalia. The Finger Lakes Concert Band is a part of the Hochstein at Canandaigua program, an extension of the Hochstein School, which is based at the Canandaigua Academy. Its mission is to offer high quality, affordable music and dance instruction to students of all ages and levels from throughout the Finger Lakes region.
