The winners of the 2011 David Hochstein Recital Competition, held at Hochstein School of Music & Dance Sunday, February 6, 2011, are as follows:
Category I: Piano Winner – Daniel Hopkins (student of Brian Preston) Senior, School of the Arts
Co-Runner-up – Stuart Burtner (student of Bonnie Choi) Homeschooled Sophomore
Co-Runner-up - Eric Hauck (student of Brian Preston) Senior, Greece Olympia HS
Category II: Strings Winner – Christina Yee, violin (student of Jeremy Zhu) Senior, Pittsford Mendon HS
Category III: Winds, Percussion, Harp Winner – Melissa Mashner, flute (student of Jan Angus) Senior, Brighton HS
Runner-up – Matthew Wedig, clarinet (student of Andy Brown) Senior, Pittsford-Mendon HS
Honorable Mention – Matthew DeCross, marimba (student of Ruth Cahn) Junior, Pittsford-Sutherland HS
Honorable Mention – Emily Przysinda, flute (student of Elizabeth Shuhan) Senior, Livonia HS
Now in its twenty-first year, this prestigious competition is open to advanced high school sophomores, juniors and seniors residing in a nine-county area surrounding Rochester and presents a monetary award and recital performance in the three categories. The performance at Hochstein will be scheduled for Spring 2011 and will be taped for broadcast at a later date over WXXI Classical 91.5 FM.
