
Percussion Ensemble

A unique opportunity to grow musically and form relationships while learning in a chamber music setting. Ensembles of various sizes will explore repertoire for percussion instruments including snare drum, keyboard, timpani, and drum set, among many others. Rehearsals feature: advanced instruction in all major areas of percussion performance; master class opportunities; instrument demonstration; special topic discussions. The ensemble concludes on March 21 with a performance.
FEE: $10 registration fee; $225 tuition.

Music Theory for Beginners
Age 10 +
This class is designed to assist beginning students with the basics of music theory, such as rhythms, time signatures, note naming, and form. A great supplement to your individual lessons!
Music History 101
Age 12 +
Appreciating music begins with an understanding of where it’s been and where it is going. Music History 101 will cover significant musical periods, from Bach to Rock. Students will listen to and study the composer’s of yesterday and today, and the class will culminate with a short presentation on each student’s favorite composer.
Music Theory: The Beatles
For Advanced Students, age 14 +
The Beatles are one of the most influential artists in the history of music, and also one of the most versatile. Their musical range covers a variety of different styles, which allows for a class like this to be offered. Students will listen to and analyze some select pieces from The Beatles catalogue to understand the theoretical process behind these songs, and how the band has influenced the music of today.
Building Your Music Portfolio
Age 14 +
This class will help students prepare materials for college and summer music camp applications and auditions. Topics covered will range from resume building to editing audio and video recordings using iMovie and iDVD.
Indie Study
What if you could create your own class at Hochstein focused on musical topics that interest you the most? Now is your chance through Independent Study with Ivan Trevino! Want to start a band? Improve your songwriting? Learn specifics about The Music Lab's software? The possibilities are endless, so think creatively and bring your project to Ivan Trevino for approval. Projects can be approached individually or in groups.
Composer’s Club
Age 10 +
One of the Music Lab’s most popular classes for new and continuing students! Compose new works and develop your own composition style using software like Finale, Sibelius, and GarageBand.
FEE for Music Lab Classes (except Indie Study): $10 registration fee; 6-week tuition fee of $81. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $60.
FEE for Indie Study: $20 registration fee; $26 per 30-minute lesson; $37 per 45-minute lesson; $47 per 60-minute lesson. Special group rates apply based on group size.

Rhythm Tap Dance

Ages 14-Adult
This class is for new beginners and students returning to tap dance who want to gain confidence in basic technique. Students will learn rudiments, steps, rhythmic patterns, and the tap dancer’s anthem, “The Shim Sham.”
FEE: $10 registration fee; $283.50 tuition for 21-week session, payable in first installment of $162 and second installment of $121.50. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $210, payable first installment of $120 and second installment of $90.
Also, a change in Dance Schedule in January: So We Know You Can Dance is moving to Mondays, 6:15-7:15PM, starting on January 9.
Music Explorers

ages 5-6
Musical adventures await your young child as we explore the world of music and develop basic skills during this pivotal point in music education. Using various activities, students will learn musical concepts including beat, rhythm, tone, and basic note reading skills, along with an appreciation for different genres and history of music. Academic subjects will be explored through music-learning to integrate music into the world of literature, math, social studies, and math.
Music for Creative Kids

ages 6-8
Exciting opportunities to sing, play, and improvise with a variety of instrumental possibilities! Using “Orff” instruments that include metallophones, xylophones, drums, recorders, Latin and rhythm instruments, explore and perform music written by composer Carl Orff and other masters. Each child is encouraged to bring a parent to class at no extra charge!
FEE for Music FUNdamentals classes: $20 registration fee. $207 tuition for 18-week session, payable in quarterly installments of $103.50. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $90, payable in quarterly installments of $45 for one Music FUNdamentals or Children’s Dance class
Orff Ensemble Goes Pop!

Students, parents, and other adults of all ages can take part in this exciting ensemble! Learn to play fun popular tunes like “Everybody Dance Now,” “Thriller,” and “Kung Fu Fighting” using “Orff” instruments including metallophones, xylophones, drums, recorders, Latin and rhythm instruments.
FEE: $10 registration fee. $207 tuition for 18-week session, payable in quarterly installments of $103.50. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $144, payable in quarterly installments of $72.
Flute Choir Reading Sessions

ages 14-Adult
This is an opportunity for students to play flute choir music in a relaxed, non-competitive format. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have never played in a flute choir but would like to try the flute choir experience and be part of a fun ensemble. This offering is most appropriate for students with two years or more experience playing the flute. The members will have an occasional opportunity to share their talent as a group with appreciative audiences at assisted living locations in the area.
FEE: $10 registration fee; $216 tuition for 18-week session, payable in two installments of $108. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $180, payable in two installments of $90.
