Holiday shoppers get a musical treat as Hochstein students, ensembles, and faculty perform non-stop in the Bob Ton Courtyard. This annual fundraiser helps defray tuition costs for needy families.

A Holiday Concert of Voices, Woodwinds, and Strings, 3:00 pm
Hochstein Singers and Hochstein Youth Singers with the Concertino Strings. Maryellen Giese directs the SIngers and Youth Singers and Elizabeth Fino-Radin conducts the Concertino Strings. Includes premiere of "Goops and Hula Hoops" composed by RPO keyboardist Cary Ratcliff, a 5-piece work scored for treble chorus, woodwind quintet, and piano. CIty Newspaper's article

Maryellen Giese directs holiday songs including "Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind, " with text from Shakespeare and music by George Shearing. Hochstein Youth Singers join them.

Annual Dance Gala, 7:30 pm
The Annual Hochstein Dance Gala on December 14 at 7:30 pm offers a variety of styles choreographed by faculty members. The Hochstein Senior Dance Ensemble performs jazz to percussionist Dave Mancini's "Mad Hatter,” choreographed by Victoria Gregory. Former Garth Fagan Dance member, Christopher Morrison performs a modern piece entitled “October Rose” accompanied by pianist Gary Palmer. A trio of ballet classics includes the snow scene from the Nutcracker, the peasant friends of Giselle, and Swanhilda from Coppelia choreographed by Dance Dept. Chair Diane Lewis. Senior dancer Hope Dudek will perform the Swanhilda piece as a “swan solo” of her own, in January she will be moving to Springfield, Missouri to join Petra Ballet Company. Other numbers on the program include ballroom, African, and Spanish, with choreography by Maureen Hickey, Adrianne Rose, Lisa Piccione, and Kate Wheeler.

Seasonal Sounds of Peace and Joy with the Finger Lakes Concert Band, 7:30 pm
Phillip Sparke's Shalom, Vaughn Williams' Rhosymedre, Traditional Christmas and a Caribbean treat including a sing-a-long. Directed by Brian Story. Canandaigua Middle School, 215 Granger St. in Canandaigua. $5 general admission, 18 and younger free.

January 18 Spotlight on Faculty concert 8:00 pm Dance!
Featuring members of Hochstein's dance faculty performing African, jazz, modern, salsa, swing, tap, and ballet in original choreography and collaborative improvisations with an array of musical guest artists.
January 27 Sunday Music Educators Wind Band Annual Pops Concert
Conducted by Al “Corky” Fabrizio. Featuring Elizabeth Million, flute, Steven Zugelder, trombone, and Penfield student Thomas Doser, bassoon. Music of Mozart, Berlin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Grainger, Ives, Fabrizio, and more. This annual pops concert features a special student giveaway of a $1000 gift certificate good towards the purchase of a woodwind, brass or string instrument. Students in Grades 6-12 are eligible. Forms available at the Hochstein office or online. Cost: $5.00 adults, 18 and younger free.
January 29 Music Therapy Dept. Recital 6:00 pm The Story Behind the Song
Students in the music therapy department perform popular songs from across the decades revealing interesting stories linked to the creation of the song and the artists who performed them. Wade Richards, directs.
January 30 Jazz Vocal Master Class 7:00 pm
Featuring Hannah Richardson. from Syracuse, married to well-known jazz
bassist Phil Flanigan. Richard Delaney directs vocal faculty and students with a jazz trio. Hilda D. Taylor Recital Hall.

| February 2 Musical Feast 2:00–4:30 pm
A Mid–winter carnival of music, dance, and games, including an instrument petting zoo. Special Guests this year include members of PUSH Physical Theatre-- inspiring families with improvisation. Hands–on classes and demonstrations encourage participation of all ages with face painting, a kazoo band, and a bake sale to top it all off! TIckets available at the door: $5.00 adults/$2.00 child/$10.00 family. Children ages 3 and under admitted for free.

February 10 Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia 7:00 pm
Nancy Strelau conducts the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra in "Composers of Today." Distant Land by John Rutter and Route 66 by Michael Daugherty featuring 2007-2008 Concerto Competition winners Kiran Rajamani, violin and Jane Zhu, violin. John Fetter conducts the Hochstein Philharmonia in this annual joint concert.

February 16 Barnes and Noble Bookfair and Concert 10:00–5:00 pm
Join ensembles and soloists at Pittsford's Barnes and Noble for a concert. While you're there, shop and make purchases that benefit Hochstein's tuition assistance program. Special bookfair vouchers available at the Hochstein office.
February 27 Ballet Master Class with Valery Lantratov 5:30--7:00 pm
ages 14+, intermediate-to-advanced level
Join us for another exciting evening with master ballet dancer Valery Lantratov, Artistic Director of the Russian National Ballet Foundation! In 1997, Russian President Boris Yeltsin named Mr. Lantratov “People’s Artist of Russia,” the Russian Federation’s highest artistic honor. This opportunity is perfect for intermediate level and advanced students of Russian Classical ballet. Pointe shoes are optional. FEE: $25; $15 for current Hochstein dance students.

Wednesday, June 18 at 6:00 pm “And All That Jazz”
"And All That Jazz" will be an evening of jazz favorites featuring music from the students of the Hochstein Music Therapy Department, the Gregory Street Blue's band, and Hochstein Jazz Department. This performance brings together both non-disabled and individuals with special needs to share the stage and perform jazz standards like "Take the A-Train", "Hit the Road Jack", "Summertime" and many more. |
