MARIA BATTISTA-HANCOCK

Board certified music therapist and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist. Music Therapy training completed at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA; additional studies in Italy for music history, harmony & theory with emphasis on voice also received from the Conservatorio di Musica “U. Giordano” in Foggia and from the D.A.M.S. “Art, Music & Drama” at the University of Bologna. Italian music teaching staff at Nazareth College. Additional early childhood music training workshop from Donna Brink Fox, Director of Early Childhood Music Program at Eastman School of Music. Owns private practice and business, "Villa Musicale". Among others, Maria uses audio-biographies, improvisation, storytelling and songwriting techniques in clinical settings.

ABIGAIL AMIDON

Abigail AmidonInstrument/Department: Music Therapy

Graduate of Nazareth College, background in viola performance. Has worked with individuals of all ages and varying abilities. Specializes in mental health interventions, therapeutic ensemble instruction, music assisted guided relaxation techniques, and therapeutic instrument instruction in clinical practice.

 

 

HELEN HALLIGAN

Helen Halligan

Graduate studies at Ithaca College, the Eastman School of Music, Oakland University, St. Bernard's Seminary and Colgate Rochester Divinity School; Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Ithaca College. Former organist and choir director for many churches in New York and Pennsylvania, currently of St. Mary's Church in Rochester. Member and former director of NPM Rochester Chapter.

 

JOSEPH KOSTECKI

Joe KosteckiInstrument/Department: Music Therapy

Certified NMT from the Robert F. Unkefer’ Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music; Level 1 in Music & Imagery for Wellness from Anna Maria College (MA). Awarded Outstanding Academic Achievement from Berklee. Specializes in using neurologic music therapy techniques to address the sensorimotor, cognitive, and speech/language abilities of individuals recovering from dysfunctions due to neurologic disease of the human nervous system.

 

MOLLY PERRY-POW

Molly PerryInstrument/Department: Music Therapy (proficient in guitar and piano)

Joined Hochstein Faculty in: 2010

 Currently pursuing Master of Science degree in Music Therapy at Nazareth College; Bachelor of Science degree in Music Therapy from SUNY Fredonia. Active in her collegiate choral programs and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota and the American Music Therapy Association. Has provided therapeutic services to children with various syndromes and conditions in Scottsdale (AZ) as well as to terminally ill patients in Poughkeepsie (NY).

 

Hometown: Waterville, NY

Favorite place to travel: Everywhere! My farthest trip was to Japan in 2006 which was incredible. I also love visiting Boston, NYC, and Arizona.

Favorite or most influential teachers were: My high school music teacher.

When I’m not at Hochstein, you can find me: At Nazareth working on my Master’s Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, practicing, the gym, or out and about with my family/friends.

People with whom/Places I’ve performed include: Fredonia College Choir, Hillman Opera, Lyric Arts International Tour: Japan.

My favorite book is: Jane Austen series.

My pets include: my kitten named Penelope Lane “Penny Lane” in commemoration of The Beatles.

Favorite things to do in Rochester are: Attend shows/concerts, shop, go to movies/museums, go on adventures (I’m new to the area), and spend time with loved ones.

People would be surprised to know that I: Am afraid of whales but enjoy going on whale watches. Confusing, I know!

What I most admire about my students is: 1. Their dedication and love for music. 2. Their unfailing ability to put a smile on my face every day.

My favorite restaurant is: Chipotle

 

SARAH RUSSELL

Sarah RussellInstrument/Department: Music Therapy

Joined Hochstein Faculty in: 2011

Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from Nazareth College, with a minor in Psychology. Teaches piano and voice in a private studio. Member of American Music Therapy Association and Music Teachers National Association where she holds an award.

 

 

 

SAM SNYDER

Sam SnyderInstrument/Department: Music Therapy

Joined Hochstein Faculty in: 2011

BA in Music Therapy, minor in Gerontology and Psychology from Nazareth College. Specializes in hospice care, and providing music therapy to children and families of children with terminal illnesses. Prior experience in the Peace Corps, grade school teaching, and providing recreational instruction at a girls orphanage.
