Other Instrumental Ensembles & Opportunities

Additional small ensembles opportunities are available in clarinet, flute, horn, low brass, percussion, trombone and trumpet, based on interest. Current offerings include:

 

Brass Ensembles

grades 8-12, NYSSMA Level 5-6

weekly one-hour sessions will be scheduled at times mutually agreeable among ensemble members and coach

Formed of advanced students of trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba, these ensembles will explore a variety of repertoire for brass ensemble, spanning all musical periods and styles. Preliminary auditions took place in June 2011; additional auditions may be scheduled by special arrangement throughout the year.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $432 yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $108 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $360 payable in quarterly installments of $90.

 

Clarinet Choir

grade 8-adult, NYSSMA Level 5-6 or the equivalent

Saturdays, 3:00-4:00 pm

An excellent opportunity for clarinet students to improve both individual and sectional clarinet techniques through a wide range of repertoire.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $396* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $99 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $324 payable in quarterly installments of $81.

 

Scholarship Flute Choir

Thursdays, 7:00-8:00 pm

Fee: Participants pay only an $80 Honors Ensemble fee.

 

Flute Choir Reading Sessions

Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30pm, beginning February 29

ages 14-Adult

This is an opportunity for students to play flute choir music in a relaxed, non-competitive format. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have never played in a flute choir but would like to try the flute choir experience and be part of a fun ensemble. This offering is most appropriate for students with two years or more experience playing the flute. The members will have an occasional opportunity to share their talent as a group with appreciative audiences at assisted living locations in the area. 

FEE: $10 registration fee; $192 tuition for 16-week session, payable in one installment of $84 and a a second installment of $108. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, tuition is $160, payable in installments of $70 and $90.

 

Adult Advanced Guitar Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble

grades 9-12, NYSSMA Level 5-6

Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm, January 4-March 22

A unique opportunity to grow musically and form relationships while learning in a chamber music setting. Ensembles of various sizes will explore repertoire for percussion instruments including snare drum, keyboard, timpani, and drum set, among many others. Rehearsals feature: advanced instruction in all major areas of percussion performance; master class opportunities; instrument demonstration; special topic discussions. The ensemble concludes on March 21 with a performance. Application
