Hochstein’s Orchestral Program is designed to provide students at all levels with the appropriate opportunity to learn and grow within the orchestral setting by developing comprehensive musicianship and an understanding of orchestral literature.

Concertino Strings

This first step in Hochstein’s comprehensive Orchestral Program is designed for violin, viola, cello, and bass students who can demonstrate beginning sight-reading proficiency.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $342* yearly tuition, payable in quarterly installments of $85.50 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $288 payable in quarterly installments of $72.

 

Sinfonia

Saturdays, 11:30 am-1:00 pm

String students with prior ensemble experience will have the opportunity to hone orchestral reading and orchestral skills while rehearsing and performing a wide variety of repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary. Rehearsal Schedule

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $360* yearly tuition, payable in quarterly installments of $90 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $315 payable in quarterly installments of $78.75.

 

Philharmonia

A full orchestra (strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion) providing students the opportunity to learn intermediate to advanced repertoire while refining orchestral technique. Rehearsal Schedule

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $387* yearly tuition, payable in quarterly installments of $96.75 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $342 payable in quarterly installments of $85.50.

 

Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra

Saturdays, 9:00-11:30 am

A full orchestra (strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion) for advanced musicians. The Youth Symphony Orchestra promotes musical experience through the study and performance of standard orchestral repertoire, contemporary works, small ensembles and student concerto performances. Season repertoire includes Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary music. The HYSO has toured in France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Ireland, among others. Virtuosi Scholarship Chamber Orchestra

A unique short-term string chamber orchestra comprised of advanced Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra players. Invitations are based on musicianship, and those participating receive full scholarships. The ensemble rehearses and performs in the fall and winter.
