Hochstein at Canandaigua Ensembles

Hochstein offers a variety of large and small instrumental ensembles and choral opportunities. Discover the joy of making music with others!

 

BAND

Finger Lakes Concert Band

Brian Story, Music Director

grade 10–adult, NYSSMA Level 6 or the equivalent

Thursdays, 7:30–9:30 pm at Canandaigua Middle School

Comprised of adult instrumentalists from the Greater Finger Lakes community, the Finger Lakes Concert Band rehearses weekly and gives several concerts per year featuring a wide variety of music ranging from standard wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions to music of the jazz and pop idioms. Auditions are not required. Musical competence will be determined by the Music Director during a trial period of at least two weeks, but not to exceed more than one series of rehearsals culminating with a concert. CHAMBER MUSIC

Please contact the Program Coordinator or Dean if you are interested in participating in a chamber ensemble, instrumental choir, or jazz combo. We will make every effort to coordinate ensembles based on compatible instrumentation and skill level.

for students in grades 6-12 and adults who play at NYSSMA Level 3-6, or the equivalent

Weekly one-hour sessions will be scheduled at times mutually agreeable among ensemble members and coach.

 

Chamber Music Connection offers fun and challenging opportunities to play a unique and crucial role in a small group setting and helps develop musicianship as well as personal skills such as cooperation, leadership, poise, focus, and self-awareness. Trios, quartets, and quintets are formed of players with compatible ages and abilities, as permitted from the pool of applicants. Open to piano, strings, woodwinds, and brass. Opportunities and benefits of the program include: a minimum of 30 coachings during the 36-week school year with members of the Hochstein faculty, Antara Winds (guest artist woodwind quintet), master classes with guest artists, and performance opportunities at Hochstein and throughout the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes regions.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $432* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $108 each. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $360 payable in quarterly installments of $90.

 

OTHER INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES

Electric Ensemble

age 14 and older, NYSSMA Level 5+ or the equivalent

Mondays, 6:30-7:30 pm

Designed to develop reading skills, as well as improvisation in the jazz, rock, and blues styles for electric guitar, electric bass, and percussion students seeking performance experience in a mixed group. Students should have three years experience on their instrument and good reading ability.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $432* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $108 each. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $360 payable in quarterly installments of $90.

 

 

CHORAL

Canandaigua Little Singers

grades 1-4

Thursdays, 4:15-5:15 pm

This beginning pre-choral experience is the perfect activity for the budding little vocalist in the family! Canandaigua Little Singers will use the voice as a tool for developing basic musicianship and introducing musical concepts, as well as to introduce the joy of singing in an age-appropriate, healthy way.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $342* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $85.50. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, tuition is $216 payable in quarterly installments of $58.50.

 

Vocal Scenes Performance Workshop

Saturdays, 11:00 am-12:00 noon in 9-week sessions

Join with other experienced adult music lovers to sing your favorite scenes of opera, operetta, or musicals in an informal workshop setting. At the end of each 9-week session, the scenes will be performed in senior living centers or community concerts. Auditions will be held following registration, and fees will be refunded in candidate is not placed.

 

Fee: $10 registration fee; $108* tuition per 9-week session. For students enrolled in individual instruction at Hochstein, tuition is $90.
